Escrevo para ficar em paz
com a minha consciência.

Daqui a quinze anos,
quando olhar para trás,

quero ser capaz de sorrir
e saber em meu coração

que te quis na minha vida
mais do que qualquer outra coisa

e lutei por isso.

I write to be at peace with my conscience.
Fifteen years from now, when I look back,
I want to be able to smile and know in my
heart I wanted you in my life more than
anything else and I fought for you.

Compro revistas velhas
e faço delas estrelas
para o meu teto,
dou-lhes nomes simpáticos.

Eu escrevi palavras
que não irão muito longe.

Mas a pequena porção de céu
que eu tenho no meu quarto
pendurada em seu silêncio
observa curiosa o meu
tecer de sonhos

Eu teço sonhos
e dou de presente às estrelas.

I buy old magazines
and cut them into stars
I stick them to the ceiling
and call them friends.

Words I have written
that won't do much.

But the tiny portion of sky
in my bedroom
it hangs there in silence
and watches as I
weave dreams

I weave dreams
and give them to stars.

Se você tivesse
ouvido
a minha serenata
ontem

com a lua alta no céu
e o meu jeito
bem humorado

pendurei estrelas
sorridentes
no azul escuro

o silêncio da madrugada
em meus olhos

amor,
eu preparei tudo
para você.

Had you listened
to my serenade
yesterday

how high
the moon
and my spirits

I hanged
smiling stars in
the dark blue

the stillness of night
in my nothing but
ordinary eyes

I prepared everything
for you,
love.

Sobrevive a
manhãs cinzentas
dias tristes
e sorrisos amarelos

o futuro,
meus queridos,
é vermelho carmesim.

Survive
gray mornings
blue days
half-hearted smiles

future,
my dear,
is crimson red.

Eu não sou um homem de posses.

Tenho uma casa,
uma bicicleta
e um cachorro.

Quando o momento chegar
e eu estiver ao lado
da mulher certa,
eis os tesouros
que tenho para ela:

O amanhecer,
visto da janela do meu quarto,
lado direito da cama;

um lugar ao meu lado
no espelho do banheiro;

uma cadeira na varanda.

I’m not a man of possessions.

I own a house,
a bicycle
and a dog.

When I’m sure to have found the right woman,
these are my lifetime treasures for her:

a view of my bedroom window,
early morning,
from the right side of my bed;

a spot next to me in the bathroom mirror;

a chair on the porch.

Certa vez
conheci um homem
do futuro.

Ele acenava
do fim de todos os meus dias
e me dava esperanças,
mas não pistas
do que havia na noite escura
para mim.

Me fazia sonhar com estrelas
ao meio-dia.

I once met a man
from the future.

He would greet me
from the end of all my days
and give me hope
but not hints
of what was it there for me
in the dead of night.

He would make me
dream of stars
at noon.

Eu não sei onde vou estar
amanhã
ou daqui a vinte anos,
mas se eu pudesse escolher,
gostaria que fosse
ao seu lado.

I don't know
where I'll be in twenty years
or tomorrow,
but if I could choose,
I'd like it to be
by your side.

Esse poema
é pra te dizer
que você pode me perder.

A qualquer momento.

Posso parecer forte
como um leão
mas na verdade,
sou tão frágil
quanto
um dente-de-leão.

Tenho medo do vento
no rosto,

de ser despedaçada
por um sopro,

de ser só uma lembrança
até cair no esquecimento.

Você pode me perder
a qualquer momento.

This is a poem
to inform you
that you can lose me.

Anytime now.

You may think I'm
as strong as a lion
but truth is
I'm as fragile as
a dandelion.

I'm afraid of wind on my face,
I'm afraid of being shattered
by a blow,

I'm afraid of becoming just a memory
and then
being soon forgotten.

Don't take me for granted.

O homem que não tem medo
de dar um passo à frente,
não pode ter medo
de dar um passo atrás.

Recua-se para ver mais adiante,
para ajustar os pés à nova estrada
e então continuar a caminhada.

He who is not afraid
of stepping ahead,
cannot be afraid of
stepping back a pace or two.

One retreats to see further ahead,
to adjust the feet to the new path
and then restart walking his journey.

De tudo o que se diz
e tudo o que se faz,
sem olhar pra trás,
não se aprende coisa alguma.

Of all the things said
and all the things done,
if one doesn't look backwards,
he'll never learn anything.

Felizes para sempre
é a medida de muitas pessoas.
A minha medida é
feliz agora
porque o agora é tudo
o que conheço.

Living happily ever after
is the measure of many people.
Mine is living happily
by now
Because now
is everything I know.
