Há qualquer peso sobre o que me dizes,
qualquer intenção além de ferir-me
quebrar-me a mim
e à minha alma em pedaços tão pequenos

que não mais façam sentido juntas
todas as partes.

Incluem-se em mim
uma a uma as tuas angústias
ainda durmo enquanto sobe
as tuas ladeiras
nos meus sonhos
vejo o teu percurso,

vejo-te afastando-se
até perderem-se de mim
os teus olhos

até que não seja mais possível
ver-te com esses olhos meus.

There is any weight on these things you tell me
any intention other than causing me to suffer,
other than breaking me down
and my soul
in pieces so little
they make no sense
put back together.

Your angst in contained in me
I'm still asleep
while you go up your hills
in my dreams I see the path you make,

I see you disappearing in the distance
your eyes slowly losing me
until I can't see you either
with these eyes of mine.

Das coisas presenteadas
ao abandono:

trinta noites de sono
no mês passado

um e-mail
não respondido

o pretérito imperfeito
do subjuntivo

a dor do último
abraço

ver-me
com teus olhos.

Of things offered as gifts
to abandonment:

thirty nights of sleep
last month

a not responded
e-mail

the Subjunctive
Imperfect Past

the pain contained
in our very last hug

seeing myself
through your eyes.

Me invento uma dor
pra te escrever uma rima

ou caminho insistente
pelos teus significados?

O que somos não há,
mas amo-te no olho do furacão,

teus monstros não me assustam,
Eu não vou perdê-lo.

Do I invent myself a pain
to write you a rhyming verse

or should I insist in the walk
along your meanings?

What we are is never going to be,
still, I love you in the eye of the tornado,

your monsters do not scare me,
I am not going to lose you.

Teus olhos são outros.
Conversam com os meus
ainda fechados.

O primeiro sorriso do dia
foi você quem trouxe.
O cheiro de chuva,

a saudade de lugares que
não conheço,
onde estiveram os teus pés,

onde dormem tuas perguntas.
Por você, eu quero
escrever um mundo.

Your eyes are different.
They speak to mine
long before I'm awake.

The first smile of the day
was brought by you,
the smell of rain,

the nostalgia of places
I've never been to
places you have walked,

places where your questions sleep.
For you,
I want to write a world.

Quantos homens um homem é?
Quantos rostos sobre o seu rosto?
Quantas vidas sobre o seu torso?

How many men is a man?
How many faces on his face?
How many lives on his bones?

Deitada no escuro,
cubro o rosto imortal
para que não me percebam o choro.

Quem pode lidar com os pensamentos
quando se tem uma centena de cabeças?

Lutei com monstros que não
podia vencer por um lugar
entre as estrelas onde os seus olhos
pudessem me alcançar nas noites claras.

I lie awake in the dark blue
covering my one pair of immortal eyes
so nobody will see me crying.

Who can deal with thoughts
when one has a hundred heads?

I fought monsters I couldn't defeat
for a place among the stars where
your eyes could meet me in the bright nights.

Stillness

I wasn't the one
who closed that door
and left the other behind
to get used to absence
and lonely spaces.

Eu ando pela cidade
mas sempre acabo
aqui.

Venho ao teu portão
e grito o teu nome
quarenta e nove vezes.

A noite responde com cachorros,
vou embora antes que os vizinhos
acordem.

Minha voz tão fraca,
tua janela tão distante,
você.

I wander through the city
but my feet always bring me back
here.

I come to your door
and scream your name
forty nine times.

Night replies with dogs,
I leave not to wake up
neighbors.

my voice so weak,
a window so distant,
you.

Sob a minha pele

para te deixar partir,
para ficar sobre os meus pés
e olhar você

indo.

Under my skin

to let you go,
to stand on my feet
and watch you

leaving.

precisa-se de pessoas
com olhares calmos

que percebam borboletas
na selva de pedra

que dêem espaço
às formigas na calçada

e sorriam para as centopéias.

(humanidade é o que vai salvar o ser humano)

wanted:

people who have calm eyes

who can spot butterflies
in the concrete jungle

who will give ants space
on the sidewalks

and smile at centipedes.

(it is humanity which will save mankind)

o minuto que antecede
a palavra errada
deveria permitir-nos
dobrar o tempo
e caminhar entre as pessoas

beijar-lhes a face
amar-lhes os olhos
a pele, os dedos
e cabelos.

0 minuto que antecede
a palavra errada
deveria aproximar-nos
dos mistérios da vida
selar-nos os lábios
acalmar-nos o coração

- isso não acontece.

the minute before the wrong word
should permit us
fold time and walk
among people

and kiss their faces
and love their eyes
and skin
and fingers
and hair.

the minute before
the wrong word
should bring us close
to the mysteries of life
seal our lips
and calm our hearts

- it never happens.

As coisas que vão
me fazer crescer mais alto
que árvores
eu ainda não conheço.

Gosto de ser pequeno
de me esconder no seu cabelo
de caber no seu bolso,
no seu abraço.

Things which will
make me grow
above trees
I haven't been
introduced to them yet.

I'm fine with being small
with hiding among your curls
with fitting your pocket,
your embrace.

Meio coração
e um plano de fuga --

Manhã fria
partimos antes do
nascer do sol.

(A luz nos encontrará
na metade do caminho.)

Half a heart
and a plan
to runaway with you

-- cold morning we leave
before the sunrise.

(light meets us
halfway destination.)

A manhã me acorda
porque
nunca fecho as janelas.

Se aproxima silenciosa
e beija os meus olhos
exatamente como gostaria
que você fizesse.

Morning wakes me up
Because I never close
the windows

it sneaks inside and kisses my eyes
the way I’d like you to do.

Numa janela
em frente à minha
observo esse homem engraçado,
costuramos noites de insônia juntos.

Dividimos um pedido
a uma estrela cadente certa vez
e fatias de bolo,
lágrimas em capítulos dramáticos
de livros bobos.

Uma noite ele me viu
e soube tudo sobre mim
pelos desenhos que
às vezes deixo na vidraça.
Foi só um minuto,
e ele soube.

In a window facing mine
I watch this funny man
we sew sleepless nights together.

We've shared a wish upon a star once
and slices of cake,
tears over dramatic chapters
in weepy books.

The other night he saw me
and he got to know all about me
from the drawings I had left on the panes.
It took him just a minute.

Eu tento
mas minhas mãos não te alcançam.

Examino o mundo palpável
e me canso dele com frequência.

Se eu fosse Ícaro,
se você não fosse o sol

será que isso seria amor?

I stretch my arms
I can't touch you

I will examine the palpable world
and get often bored

were I Icarus
were you not the sun

would it be love?

Eu grito com o silêncio,
ele me ignora.

Deitamos juntos no sofá,
estou cansada.

Ele se coloca sobre mim
como um cobertor.

- na primavera me sufoca,
no inverno esconde o meu desamparo.

Isso é o mais perto do amor
que tenho estado.

I yell at silence,
it ignores me.

We lay together on the sofa,
I'm exhausted,

it covers me like a blanket

- in the spring it's suffocating,
in the winter it hides my hopelessness.

It's the closest of love I've been to these days.

Quase palavras
as coisas que os seus olhos
disseram aos meus.

Elas poderiam
ter nos feito em pedaços
ou ter nos unido pra sempre.

Foi por pouco.

Nearly words
the things your eyes said
to mine.

They could have
broken us into small pieces
or brought us together for good.

It was close.

O rosto de alguma mulher
num muro
chorando as lágrimas
de todas as mulheres.

Quão aleatórios
e esquecíveis
são os seres humanos?

- a pergunta em seus olhos
que eu não posso responder.

some woman's face
on a wall
crying all women's tears

how random
and forgetable
are human beings?

a question
in her eyes
I cannot answer.

Quando você partir
o vento vai movimentar
o vazio

ele descansará
sobre os móveis
como poeira

O silêncio
ocupará
todos os espaços

Meu coração
partido em mil pedaços
não poderá ser colado
com condolências.

When you're gone
the wind will carry
the emptiness

it will settle
over the furniture
like dust

Your absence
will
occupy the spaces

My heart
broken into thousand small pieces
which won't glue back together
with condolences.
