│Chance cards is a writing game I really like playing and it's pretty simple. You have to open a random book, choose a sentence in it and write a poem from the insight you may have by 'feeling' the line. Playing it together with someone else is always more amusing, and if you do, you have to pick a sentence for the other player, and vice versa.

This is the line I gave a friend of mine last night:

"A stone-paved pathway led to the road. There were briars on both sides of the pathway."
(From: The sound and the fury, William Faulkner)

And this is what he made to me:

Kenia used to keep all her feeling under wraps

with smiles and niceness.
Her simplicity

was a lake skirted by beautiful landscape
which would drive anyone who dared crossing it
to drowning.

(It kind of made me feel like an evil mythical swamp creature, but I wanted to share both the game and the poem with you. Hope you like it.)│

A lua assiste o mundo
- inquieta,
instável,
curiosa -
matar todas as possibilidades.

The curious
restless
impatient moon
watches the world
kill all the possibilities.

Havia a vontade
de você
no sonho
e o desejo
que suas palavras
carregassem
alguma mensagem
secreta.
Você deve ser só
uma mentira
que visita o meu inconsciente.
Não me importo.
- Eu acredito,
pela ilusão
momentânea
de felicidade.

There was
the desire of you
in the dream
and the wish your words
delivered a secret message.
You may be just a lie
that visits my subconscious.
I don't really care.
- I believe it
for the brief
illusion
of happiness.

Você me afeta
com o impacto

perfeito,
ar rarefeito
condensado
para os meus pulmões,
sopro da felicidade

mais pura
para a minha alma.

You have an effect on me,
an impact,
thin air
made thick to go
into my lungs,
a blow of the purest happiness
to go with my soul.

(to you-know-who, we kind of started it together)

somos

Rhetorical questions and
chamomile tea
are not enough to
calm my heart down.

I suffer from an unecessary condition
that is
living in a cocoon
while not being a caterpillar.

Living in the light brings up questions,
living in the dark brings up questions.
Living sometimes takes my breath away.

- but I'll be a butterfly one day
and there won't be prisons to my soul anymore.
