Um poema
para preencher
os espaços vazios
dentro de mim
e de você,

para embalar
nossos sonhos
e diminuir a importância
das pedras,
das muralhas,
dos caminhos.

Um poema
e alguns rabiscos -
para compor
a imagem de
leveza onírica
que a vida
tem para nós.

A poem to
to occupy
all the empty space
inside you
and me,

to cradle
us till we fall asleep
and diminish the importance
of stones,
walls
and roads not taken.

A poem
and doodles
to compose
the light
and oneiric
image we have of
life.

(Uma brincadeira no caderno de sketches do Thiago no fim de semana, só porque eu queria dar a ele uma lembrança de um dia comum)

(Both the drawing and poem were made while playing with Thiago's sketchbook on the weekend, just because I wanted to give him a keepsake of an ordinary day)

Eu me costuro poema
a partir dos trapos
de memórias

e segredos
que cobrem
minhas janelas.

Você se faz luz

e me invade.

I quilt poems
of myself
from the rags
of secrets
and
old memories
covering my windows.

You're light
peeking into me.

Toda pessoa é um poema
esperando um poeta
que lhe revele as linhas
e atribua-lhes significado.

Every person is a poem
waiting for a poet
to reveal her lines
and attribute them meaning.

Preciso de
um poema de ninar
com palavras leves
e azuis
que
me carregue no colo
até a cama.

I need a
poem-lullaby
made of light blue words
that will carry me to bed.

Certezas parecem não dormir nunca
- pelo menos não em camas de poetas
como nós.
Ausência e dúvida
são as coisas que tiram o sono,
são os fermentos da poesia.

Certainties seem never to sleep
- at least not in bed like ours,
poets' beds.
Absence and doubt
are things that prevent people from sleeping,
they are baking powder for poems
cooking poets are always making.

Acontece que
nem sempre há idéias brilhantes.
Às vezes elas são
só idéias.
O brilho nos olhos dos outros
é que as torna grandes.

What happens is that
there aren't always brilliant ideas.
Sometimes they are just
regular ideas.
The glow in people's eyes
is what makes them bigger and better.

Escrevo apenas
o que é humanamente possível
com muito prazer
e algum pesar
pelos sentimentos
não comunicados
e as palavras
cujas vozes
nunca serão ouvidas.

I write what is
humanely possible
with much pleasure
and some sorrow
for the silent feelings
and the words whose voices
will never be heard.

Comecei o dia
com banho frio
café requentado
poema dormido e

ônibus lotado -
Deus permita que
ao menos
eu tenha estrelas
mais tarde.

I started the day
with a cold shower
rewarmed coffee
a stale poem and
a crowded bus -
God grant I have stars
later.

Corto fora palavras
que não serão poemas
nem canções.
Da mesma forma,
alguém maior do que eu
escreve a minha sorte.
Um dia vou saber a que vim.
Por hora, permaneço um mistério.

I cut off words
that won't make it for poems
or songs.
Someone bigger than me
writes my fortune the same way.
Someday I'll discover
what I'm here for.
By now, I'm still a mystery.

Hoje eu andei muito
e não fui a lugar algum.
Precisava ficar um tempo comigo -
tenho passado tempo demais sozinha.
Saí pra procurar minha voz interior -
ela se perdeu de mim
há algumas semanas.
Precisava de respostas
para algumas perguntas;
ainda preciso terminar uns poemas.

I walked for many miles today
and I didn't go anywhere.
I needed to spend some time with myself -
I've been spending too much time alone.
I went looking for my inner voice -
we've lost each other
some weeks ago.
I needed the answers
to some questions;
I still have to finish some poems .
