Ficar acordada na cama
com pensamentos que
nenhuma moeda pode comprar.

Protegê-los do tempo
que habita a escuridão
e espia

a minha mente
através de uma fresta
nos dias.

Ele vai roubá-lo de mim,
o tempo.
Virá quando eu estiver

muito triste ou
cansada demais
para lutar contra

o estado de ser
nada além de
uma memória perdida.

to lie awake in bed
with thoughts of you
no penny could buy

to guard them from
time which dwells
in the dark and spies

on my mind through
a crevice in the days.
it will steal you from me,

time. it will come
when I'm the saddest
and too tired to fight off -

the state of being
nothing but a
lost memory.

O caos que habita em mim
saúda o caos que habita em você.

Não sei aonde estamos indo
mas sei de onde viemos -

de universos solitários parecidos,
crescemos desordenados,
tornamo-nos impossíveis juntos,

ainda assim,
só o teu abraço cala os meus medos.

Chaos within me
honors chaos within you.

I don't know where we're going,
but I know where we come from

- we come from similar lonely universes,
which grew straggly, making us impossible together,

still, it's only when you hold me close to your heart
I forget about my fears.

Eu sou Frida.
O destino me prendeu à cama
para que não pudesse voar.

Primeiro
desmontou-me
como um rádio quebrado.

Os pedaços perdidos
tornaram-me
uma canção impossível.

Eu, que sou feita de
carne e desejos,
fui mergulhada em clorofórmio,

embalsamada
e colocada num sarcófago
por um mês.

A morte dançou em torno
de mim tantas vezes
sem explicar porque fui poupada.

I am Frida.
Destiny nailed me to bed
so I could not fly.

First
it dismantled me
like a broken radio

lost pieces
made me into an
impossible song.

I, who am made of
flesh and wishes,
have been chloroformed

embalmed
and put in a sarcophagus
for a month.

Death danced around me
so many nights, I wish he
explained why I was saved.

Vou enterrar as últimas palavras
sobre você em algum lugar
às margens do Sena.

Entre todas as histórias
contadas pelas esquinas de Paris
talvez alguém encontre a nossa.

Se o dia não estiver
muito frio para uma caminhada.
Se não for muito tarde.

I'm gonna bury the last
word about you somewhere
in the banks of the river Seine.

Amongst all the stories
told by Parisian corners
someone might find ours,

if it's not too cold a day
for an enjoyable walk.
Or too late.

Venho para casa uma noite e
encontro um grande olho amarelo
sentado num copo na soleira da janela. Ele dorme.

Uma vez foi um botão
em formato de margarida.
Lembrou-te um girassol
e trouxe-o para mim.

No meio da noite rouba-me
para longas conversas
com as estrelas e risos
com as ruas vazias.

Nos dias mais difíceis,
ainda te espero nas coisas pequenas.

I come home one night and find
a big yellow eye, sitting in a glass
on my window sill. It sleeps.

Once it was a button shaped like a daisy,
you thought it looked like a sunflower,
and wanted me to keep it.

You steal me from home in
the middle of the night
for long conversations with stars
and laughs with the empty streets.

In the worst days,
I still wait for you in the little things.

Escrevo para ficar em paz
com a minha consciência.

Daqui a quinze anos,
quando olhar para trás,

quero ser capaz de sorrir
e saber em meu coração

que te quis na minha vida
mais do que qualquer outra coisa

e lutei por isso.

I write to be at peace with my conscience.
Fifteen years from now, when I look back,
I want to be able to smile and know in my
heart I wanted you in my life more than
anything else and I fought for you.

Eu sei que você vem
quando adormeço.
Escolho não ver.

Ultimamente parece
mais fácil cavar abismos
do que amar.

Quando espero a coragem do contrário,
vem sem roubar-me os silêncios,
sem modificar-me os espaços

e parte antes de querer ficar.
Inúmeras vezes no último ano
tive vontade de lhe dizer isso:

Meu coração não procura substitutos.

É você a minha paz,
e vive no pouco que gostaria
de abraçar depois do fim.

I know you come
when I'm half asleep.

I choose not to see.

these days it's easier
to dig an abyss

than to love.

Whenever I expect rebellious courage
you come and leave me unaltered with my silences

you come and leave me with these spaces.

You part before you feel like staying.
In many occasions last year, I wanted to tell you this:

my heart never looked for replacement.

you are my peace.
you dwell among the few things

I wish I could embrace after the end.

Sua aversão às minhas palavras
me impôs um  padrão.

não devo falar de amor
não devo dizer o seu nome
não devo expressar meus desejos
tudo em um mesmo poema.

Essa é certamente a
mais dolorosa das restrições.

Your hatred of my words
has imposed me a pattern.

I must not speak of love
I must not say your name
I must not tell my wishes
all in the same poem.

This has to be the
most painful constraint.

Você pode aprender algumas
coisas importantes sobre mim
se tiver calma.

Eu não tenho.
Quero que a vida aconteça logo,
apesar do medo de envelhecer.

Pulo linhas para chegar
mais rápido ao fim de livros chatos.

Raramente escuto uma música inteira.
Gosto dos meus legumes
levemente mal cozidos.

Visto roupas antes de estarem
completamente secas.

Não consigo escrever haicais.
Não consigo pensar jogos de xadrez.
Não consigo ficar quieta.

Mas gosto de seguir pequenos insetos
a lugares onde não me encaixo e
passar horas pensando em suas
vidas secretas.

You'll learn a few important things about me
if you are calm.

I am not.
I want life to happen soon,
in spite of being scared of growing old.

I skip lines in books sometimes
to get to the end fast when I find them boring.

I rarely listen to an entire song.
I like my vegetables undercooked.
I put on clothes before they're completely dry.

I can't write haiku.
I can't think chess.
I can't sit still.

Still I like to follow tiny bugs going places
I don't fit in, and spend hours thinking about
their secret lives.

Três minutos de felicidade à distância
e o mundo perde uma volta,

fogem minhas palavras aos primeiros
sinais de terremoto.

Os sentimentos extremos deveriam
vir acompanhados de vertigens mínimas.

Como alguém pode manter o equilíbrio
em meio a tantas borboletas?

three minutes watching happiness
at distance and the world misses a turn

my words abandon me at the first sign
of an earthquake

extreme feeling should be accompanied
by minimal dizziness

how can one keep balance
with so many butterflies around?

Alfinetes, agulha e linha
para bordar um coração nesse peito

meça a altura e a largura,
calcule o número de pontos

para estar certo de cobrir
todo o modelo.

Faça-os apertados o suficiente
para não se desmancharem cedo,

mas não tão duros que
me causem sufoco.

Pins, needle and thread
to embroider a heart to this chest

measure the height and the width
calculate the number of stitches

to make sure you can cover
the entire motif

make them tight enough
it won't fall off

but not so stiff
it can't beat.

365 caixas vazias no calendário,
não estamos em nenhuma delas
existimos em lugares separados,
contentes com nossa insignificância.

Eu finalmente entendi o que
você tentava me dizer.
Se pudesse corrigir um erro
ainda não seria você.

Gosto de tê-lo vivido
quando tinha medo de que
você nunca mais fosse o mesmo.
Agora você não é.

365 empty boxes on the calendar,
we aren't in any of them
we exist in separate places,
insignificant, but content.

I have finally understood
what you were trying to tell me.
If I could correct a mistake
it still wouldn't be you.

I like it that I lived you
when I feared you'd never
be the same if you left.
Now you are not.

Foi só recentemente,
aprendi que desapego não é desistência.
desapegar é reconhecer

que a existência não é permanente,
que a vida flui e o mundo não é estático:
ele rodopia,

exigindo do homem vinte e três horas,
cinquenta e seis minutos
e quatro segundos para as estrelas,

exigindo que o homem passe por
invernos cinzentos
antes de ter o azul do céu de volta,

exigindo que o homem seja
um homem diferente,
repetidas vezes.

E há a desistência.

It was only recently
I have learned that to let go is not like to give up.

to let go means to acknowledge that existence is not permanent,
that life is flowing and the world is not still:
it twirls,

taking a man twenty three hours, fifty-six minutes and four seconds for stars,
taking a man to go through the grayest winters before he can have blue skies back,
taking a man to be a a different man, on a loop.

and then there is to give up.

Caminhando entre pássaros
dos quais ninguém sentirá falta,

no asfalto quente cobertos
de pó e imundície

mortos por homens dentro de garotos
armados de bravura e estilingues

que direito tenho eu
de me sentir quebrada?

Walking among birds no one will miss
covered in dust and dirt on the hot asphalt

killed by men inside boys
armed with bravery and slingshots

what right do I have
to feel broken?

Estas linhas pertencem à sua pele, aşkim.

Escrevê-las pelo seu corpo
exigiria as escolhas que não fiz.

Sonhei muito com o espaço,
mas esses pés precisavam de chão.

Criaram raízes, esses pés,
para que eu ainda pudesse crescer
e ver acima das nuvens.

Ele diz que não posso amá-las
nem as cirrus, nem as stratus,
porque eu não amo nada.

Eu sou uma fraude, ele diz.

Mas não é maravilhoso
ter habitado uma semente

antes desse corpo,
indo e vindo novamente?

Eventualmente me tornarei
alguma coisa bela.

These lines belong on your skin, aşkim.
to stand before your eyes and

and write them all over your body
would have taken choices I never made -

I dreamed of the the outer space.
but these feet needed ground.

They've grown roots, these feet.
so I could still grow tall and see above the clouds.

He says I am not
allowed to love

the cirrus or the stratus
because I don't love anything.

I'm a fraud, he says.

but isn't it wonderful
that I've inhabited a seed

before this body,
coming and going?

I must turn into something
beautiful eventually.

For the third night in a row he comes to the window and breathes so close that the pane steams up. His face, a sudden blur against the street lights, I can barely recognize it. He doesn't stand there for long, the cat on the roof, the full moon, the 2 a.m. train, they never meet him.  Whether he reads or lies awake in bed, We sit outside, waiting on the stars.

There is never a door that opens.

É como estar de volta
ao quintal onde cresci
entre bonecas e insetos.

Brinco na grama,
numa tarde quente,
persigo grilos.

Não os apanho.

It's like being
Back in the yard
Where I grew up
Amongst dolls and bugs.

I play on the grass,
In a hot afternoon,
I chase crickets.

I can’t catch them.

She woke up from a bad dream
and the world had changed its place.

She ignored the voices, had a cold shower,
picked up the same face on the mirror.

You can't find love in many places these days,
you need a good plan.

This persistent pain in the chest,
this wind messing with your soul,

they don't know what you're made of.
