Gosto de ver famílias
fazendo coisas juntas.

Estudo seus rostos
e movimentos
com interesse singular

Penso como será
quando
eu tiver a minha própria família:

Cinco crianças
quatro cachorros
brincando juntos no quintal,
brigando uns com outros,
ganhando abraços,
mordidas e
joelhos escalavrados
crescendo juntos
cercados de amor.

I like watching families
doing things together.

I study their faces
and movements
with singular interest.

I think of how amazing
it will be for me
when I have my own family:

Five children
Four big dogs
playing in the yard,
fighting one another,
getting bitten
hugged
bruised

still growing up in love,
all together.

A inocência pertence a uma parte da vida que acontece antes de desejarmos ser grandes.

Innocence belongs to that part of life that comes before we start wishing to be big.

Que a vida de um ser humano
comece dentro de outro,
e uma vez
fora do corpo
o homem procure
incessante
o caminho
até o coração certo,
onde há de construir
sua casa de sonhos
e silêncio,
plantar árvores
e ter filhos
esperando o dia
de mudar-se
para as estórias
contadas para os netos.

A human being
starts his life
inside another one,
and once outside
the body,
he searches for
a heart
where he'll build his house
of dreams and silence,
where he'll plant trees
and have children
until he's ready to move
and live
in the stories told to his
grandchildren.

Lembrei hoje
do monstro da minha infância
que vivia debaixo da cama
e acabei chorando
o choro
triste
que traz um nó à garganta
de quem sabe que cresceu
e não volta o tempo de ser criança.

Today I remembered
the childhood monster
who used to live under my bed.
I ended up crying
at the memory of him,
it brought a lump to my throat,
because
It's still hard to deal with the fact
I'm a grown-up now
and I'll never live those days again.

Eu sinto falta de
ser criança.
Crescemos e abandonamos
nossos pequenos universos,
criamos galáxias-fantasma.

A infância deveria ser
um planeta amigo
para onde todos nós
pudéssemos voar
quando ficássemos sem ar
no mundo adulto.

I miss being a child.
We grow up and abandon
our small universes,
we turn them into
'ghost galaxies'.

Childhood should be
a friendly planet
where we could always
fly to
whenever we
had breathing difficulties
in adult world.

As crianças são
do tamanho de sua imaginação.
Os adultos infelizmente
preferem adotar
sistemas mais racionais de medidas.

Children are
as big as their imagination.
Adults prefer
to adopt more rational
measurement systems sadly.
